It’s not the cheapest overdrive on the shelf, but Bonamassa and MXR got this one right, with a great range of sounds and a natural-sounding overdrive that suits both clean and dirty amps. Custom50 , Oct 15, IDK about the circuit or tone differences, or if they are truly different at all in their tone-producing circuitry, but I found the original black JB way too bass heavy, fuzzy, and the bass control was super touchy- either too much or too little, never had a sweet spot. Does this mean they both have active EQ?

Control-wise, the level and drive knobs act as you’d expect, while the hi and low knobs cut or boost treble and bass frequencies, and the hi cut switch rounds off high frequencies. The EQ is the same blnamassa both version. The pedal sounds very different with the knobs at noon, where the low and high frequencies being boosted change the feel of the pedal a lot.

Thank you for not just saying “they sound different when the knobs are the same so they must be different”, like too many people here. Diodes d3 and D4 are in the JB but I can’t see them on the regular version Oct 15, 3.
There’s probably more but these ones are obvious, even to my untrained eye. Might explain why I tried the JB and really liked it, bought the regular version and didn’t like it at all.
In fact, crank up the gain and it’s so smooth that it begins to verge on fuzz territory, in contrast to the crunchy low-gain sounds. The FET Driver pedal is designed to thicken up lead playing, and its tones range from soft clipping to light distortion.
